Sant Boi de Llobregat. April 5, 2024. During a meeting with the media at the Cal Ninyo Theater, the director of Fantboi, Hugo Cobo and the Councilor of Culture of Sant Boi de Llobregat, José Manuel Labrador, presented to the audience the poster of Alba Qm’s work based in the leitmotiv of this fourth edition of Fantboi: Only happens in Japan.
They also revealed some of the titles that will form the backbone of this year’s extensive programming, which has not only had a numerically higher participation than in previous editions but has established the international nature of Fantboi by presenting titles from Sweden, Iran , France or Japan, the United Kingdom, China… until we reach 25 participating countries.
Among the titles presented is a proposal from Reunion Island, the disturbing Scarlet Blue, Aurélia Mengin’s second film after Fornacis, a mix between drama and mystery starring Amélie Daure and Stefano Cassetti that will not leave attendees indifferent. thanks to its innovative mix of Noir and psychological horror with neon backgrounds. Scarlet Blue tells the story of a woman who, after a hypnosis session, will discover what dark secrets her mother keeps and which she will have to face. One of the great surprises comes from Japan, and very much in tune with this fourth edition, with the European premiere of Echoes of the shadows, an indie horror where director Takeshi Furusawa tells in 68 minutes the story of a woman who practices prostitution to give to eat his daughter and when she disappears, strange routines will appear in his life that only one client seems to understand; Furusawa throws the viewer fully into everyday terror while he returns to the sordid and suffocating universes of previous titles made by the director.
The national presence will be represented by two films that arrive at the Fantboi after a “tour” of other genre festivals in which they have triumphed both in critics and in the public: The dining room table by Caye Casas and Os Reviento by Kike Narcea. Regarding the first, the director of the festival affirms that «it is our way of supporting a truly great independent film, I was not going to leave the Fantboi audience without the opportunity to suffer in their seats» and that is that La mesita del The dining room will confront the public with the darkest aspects of humanity thanks to the story of this couple – played by David Pareja and Estefanía de los Santos – whose life will take a turn to hell after the purchase of a dining room table. Regarding Os Reviento, according to Hugo Cobo “it is the scoundrel film that we needed, low-cost action cinema, with a Spanish «Jason Statham», where he distributes ostias like bread and pays a good tribute to figures of Spanish horror cinema and the underground” , the truth is that each showing of Kike Narcea’s film, starring Mario Mayo playing Tarado, becomes a party and the Fantboi audience will surely enjoy it.
Likewise, the Another Look section will host the Iranian title Legend of the Dead, a work by director Mehdi Naderi, who on this occasion abandons his realistic style, always on the edge between the dramatic and the comic, to analyze the myth of lycanthropy from a point of view. unusual, completely different and groundbreaking view; Legend of the dead not only has impressive visual and photographic work but also seeks to relate the character of the werewolf with primitive elements in which there are hardly any dialogues and which will clearly be a reference film for directors and cinematographers eager to seek new horizons. in the world of lycanthropy and monsters.
More titles will be released in the near future until the full program of the festival, which will take place between July 11 and 14, is completed. If you want to be up to date with the news, send us an email to premsa@fantboi.com and we will keep you informed.
