Sant Boi de Llobregat. The fifth edition of Fantboi ( Sant Boi Fantastic Film Festival) took place from June 19th to 22nd. Boi de Llobregat ) which this year was supported by a leit A motive as important as mental health. The festival organizers have decided to concentrate the film offering by reducing the number of films while focusing on direct contact with the audience through a large number of activities such as live podcast recordings, a market , and what will become one of the highlights of future editions: the successful auction of works by various artists based on this year’s central theme, the proceeds of which went to the Catalan Association for Suicide Prevention.
The response from the audience attending these events was so positive that not only do the organizers express their gratitude for the support, but they are also already aware that the bond between the festival and an increasingly loyal and attentive audience has been strengthened.
Moving on to the screenings, this year’s jury, composed of the director of the Insólito festival in Peru, Lina Durán, the deputy director of the Galician Freaky Film Festival Miriam P. Álvarez and actress Veki Velilla awarded the Best Film prize to Parallel Consequences by Gabriel Francia and CD Vallada, a Brazilian film with growing tension and set in a single location with only three characters. Charli Z Frequency Sangar was the big winner thanks to its clay animation and its story, reminiscent of the best of John Carpenter and a nod to the universe of the living dead by George A. Romero and Dan O’Bannon . The Galician short film Menú del Día, by Denim Cadenza received a special mention, as » the three members of the jury were fascinated from the very beginning by the unhealthy universe created in this small restaurant. A simple, traditional story that deserves this special mention .»
For the Fantboi organization these have been intense days, full of joy and anecdotes such as the presence of Fabio Powers , the director of The Oldman and the Devil Sword , who has earned the title of » friend of the festival » on his own merits, and is constantly present on social media thanks to greetings from Javier Fesser , Kiko Prada, and Borja Crespo, among others. Now, with the applause after the final session over, all that remains is to say: Long live fantasy and on to the next Fantboi !
